Excitement is building ahead of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Joburg 10km, taking place on Heritage Day, 24 September. Cuan Walker takes a look at the Hollywood Athletics Club elites to keep an eye on.
Thousands of runners will take to the streets in one of South Africa’s premier road races. Among the elite field, the Hollywood Athletics Club will once again be flying its distinctive Purple colours with pride, fielding an impressive group of top-level athletes ready to challenge for podium places.
In the men’s race, Hollywood Athletics Club boasts both depth and international quality. South Africa’s Reghen Magwai, who comes in with a personal best of 28:29, has been steadily climbing the ranks and is tipped to be a strong contender at altitude. Alongside him, a duo of Lesotho’s finest athletes will bring both experience and strength: Tsepo Ramashamole (28:34) and Joseph Seutloali (28:36) are in great shape with Seutloali having a superb 2025 season taking wins in the Two Oceans Marathon and last week setting a new course record at the Gun Run Half Marathon in Cape Town, while Ramashamole was dominant in the Pirates Half Marathon and was runner up at the recent Exxaro Half Marathon in Centurion.
These three runners not only represent individual class but also demonstrate Hollywood Athletics club’s commitment to nurturing and supporting world-class talent from across Southern Africa. Together, they form a formidable unit that will be looking to set the pace and disrupt the ambitions of others in the field to paint the streets purple once again.
The Hollywood Queen Khatala aims high
The women’s race is set to be equally thrilling. At the helm is Neheng Khatala who boasts the quickest time in the filed on paper thanks to her 31:53 National Lesotho record set this year. One of the most respected distance runners in Southern Africa, Khatala has had a superb 2025 racing season and is look set to take yet another podium spot and perhaps the top step.
Backing her up is Rutendo Nyahora, an exciting talent who boasts a 32:55 10km best and has represented her country Zimbabwe on the big stage at both the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
Speaking ahead of the race, Hollywood Athletics Club’s elite team manager, Manfred Seidler, expressed his excitement at the depth and potential of the squad:
“The Absa Run Your City Johannesburg 10km is one of the standout races on the South African calendar, and we are proud to have such a strong group of athletes representing Hollywood. Neheng continues to inspire with her consistency and world-class performances. On the men’s side, Reghen, Tshepo and Joseph bring both experience and hunger to the race – they are determined to make their mark. Our athletes know the level of competition will be fierce, but they are ready to give it their all and make the purple colours shine on race day.”
