This Saturday, Durban will once again paint the streets Purple as Hollywood Athletics Club hosts one of the premier events on the South African road running calendar, the Hollywoodbets Durban 10km, starting from the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.
With a sold-out field of 12,000 runners and a lightning-fast, flat course, anticipation is high for a day of exceptional racing.
Apart from some of Hollywood’s Elite Purple stars in action, some of the best Southern African runners i will be out in action, eyeing the R37 500 first prize on offer and it may take a sub 28-minute clocking to walk away as the victor in the men’s race.
The men’s race features a star-studded field:
- Stephen Mokoka (Hollywood AC) – 26-time national champion, four-time Olympian, and 10km PB of 27:38.
- Thabang Mosiako (Nedbank) – First South African to record three sub-28-minute 10km performances in a single year.
- Kabelo Mulaudzi (Boxer) – 2025 SA 5km Champion, fresh from a 27:41 PB in Durban.
- Kamohelo Mofolo (Xcel) – The 19-year-old prodigy with a 27:47 best.
Mokoka finds himself amid a Cape Town Marathon training buildup so may not have the speed in the legs to go sub-28 but Mosiako, Mulaudzi and Mofolo will spearhead the men’s elite field and look to run fast.
Mulaudzi is having a fine 2025, having won three Absa RYC 10km events in a row, including last weekend’s Absa Tshwane RYC 10km. Mofolo comes in with a 27:47 new Lesotho national record which was set in July, and whilst he also finds himself in a big marathon block, the youngster has tons of speed and perhaps the marathon training where he makes his marathon debut in October in Cape Town, will reap benefits.
The question over Mulaudzi will be if he has recovered from his Tshwane victory just six days ago.
The women’s field is equally competitive:
- Glenrose Xaba (Boxer) – National 10km record holder (31:12), National Marathon record holder (2:22:02), multiple-time national champion, Cape Town Marathon 2024 winner
- Neheng Khatala (Hollywood AC) – Defending champion, Olympian and Lesotho’s national record holder, with a 10km PB of 31:53
- Tayla Kavanagh (Hollywood AC) – Durban’s own rising star, also boasting a 31:53 best. Former National 5km & 10km champion
- Karabo More (Boxer) – National 4km National cross-country champion
- Karabo Mailula (Tuks) – USSA national champion over 10000m & half marathon 2025, 33:01 10km PB
- Fridah Ndinda (Kenya) – Winner Hollywoodbets Johannesburg 10km 2024
Xaba leads a stellar women’s field and comes in fresh from her record-breaking victory six days ago at the Absa Tshwane 10km, running 31:50. Xaba always runs well, and Durban is the city that saw her break the national 10km record when
she clocked 31:12 last year.
The Hollywood Purple Stars duo of Khatala and Kavanagh will undoubtedly chase her. Both running personal bests of 31:53 in July, the pair are in the forms of their lives, with Khatala also being the defending champion.
