South Africa’s road running fraternity is set for a defining moment as ultra-distance champions Tete Dijana and Edward Mothibi line-up in Durban for their first official race in the colours of the Hollywood Athletics Club at the Best of the Best Marathon.
The highly anticipated debut marks a significant milestone for the Purple Team, bringing together two of the country’s most celebrated ultra-distance athletes under one banner as they launch what promises to be an exciting and competitive road racing season.
Dijana has cemented his name among South Africa’s all time greats, capturing the Comrades Marathon title in 2022, 2023 and most recently in 2025 a rare and extraordinary hat trick that highlights his tactical brilliance, explosive pace and unshakeable determination.
Mothibi, the 2019 Comrades champion, adds further prestige to the start line. Renowned for his strength over extreme distances and consistency at elite level, he boasts multiple top-five Comrades finishes and an impressive performance at the World 50km Championships, reinforcing his standing as one of South Africa’s most accomplished competitors.
Together, they bring decades of experience, grit, and race day excellence to the club, setting the stage for a season filled with promise, inspiration and electrifying competition.
